North and Sloan was created as an expression of reverence to my grandparents' and their ancestors' journey.

I’m not a yogi. I have neither perfected my practice nor my postures. I don’t practice as often as I would like. Even though these things are true for me, I am a yoga advocate. Life can get hard but with just a few dedicated minutes, you can improve your mood and your outlook.Feeling overwhelmed and in declining spirits, I attended my first yoga class at a lovely studio in Kirkwood, one of my favorite neighborhoods in Atlanta, in 2018. Despite the attention that made it clear that I was the ‘other’ and how my mat was “all wrong”, I left feeling better. I continued to practice yoga collectively with others at least two times a week until the coronavirus shut-down of 2020.

During my journey I discovered the strangest phenomenon of this brown people’s practice commonly being gate kept by the disapproving white woman’s gaze. My at-home practice has not been as diligent, but it allowed me to see that comfort in one’s own space is powerful and from this was born the idea of bringing a symbol of self into every yoga space I would enter through designs inspired by my ancestors. North & Sloan mats are ideal for yoga, Pilates, prayer, meditation, or exercise. They are inspired by my closeness and connectivity to loved ones past. You will be proud of the time that you take to have a quiet moment with yourself as you practice any path in yoga, or any practice, on your new North+Sloan mat.
